Trouble Using Office/Word 2013

Hi, Folks.  I'm having some problems using Microsft Word 2013. When I 
started typing a document, I noticed that when cursoring back to text I 
wanted to edit, WE didn't speak any characters as I either cursored or 
back-spaced over them.  What's the problem, and how can I fix it?
