I for one will continue to use WE as long as humanly possible regardless of
what VFO eventually does. I also plan to renew my lapsed SMA just as son as
finances permit so I can once again use the Vocalizer voices I purchased
four years ago when I want a break from Microsoft Xera.

Hi Joe And Folks!
I don't think Window-Eyes is going anywhere in the near future, they are
still sellin SMAs and according to what they said to me about 3 to 4
days ago they will be selling them for the near future. I guess
anything could happen between now and then, but I am certainly not going
to spend my time speculating about something that might or might not
happen. You know the world might get struck by an astroid and all this
discussion would be for not<SMILE!>. Enjoy Window-Eyes while it is here
and if for some reason it happens to go away, we will just have to find
another screen reader. Have A Good 1! de

Yes, I hear you loud and clear. I was around when when the lies was just
beginning and I was swayed by the very helpful people who had me sitting
in the chair using vocalize instead of just "preaching about its merits.
What a great day that was for me I believe it was at one of the major
summer convention.

All I can definitively tell you is this folks, I work full time
professionally as an assistive technology instructor with a blindness
agency every day. At a recent retreat, the thinking throughout the room
did most certainly seem to be that VFO most likely does have plans to
quote unquote, kill off, Window-eyes, either now or in the not too distant
future. The question I asked was, why are we, that is the assistive tech
department, going to officially be promoting the use of NVDA as a free
screen reader, and not Window-eyes? My logic being that Window-eyes can
also essentially be free as well. That's when several replies came back
that gave me the distinct impression that Window-eyes' days may in truth
be numbered. I hope that's not the case; I've been a customer of Gw Micro
since the Vocal-eyes days! Anyone here remember those days? Back when it
used to be Jaws for Dos, versus Vocal-eyes? I remember when it used to be
Arkenstone who sold Openbook, not Freedom Scientific. I
d
o feel that Gw Micro personnel do need to innovate, and do need to
perhaps learn new ways of becoming freshly and aggressively competitive. I
certainly hope the shark doesn't gobble up everybody, yuck!
