Good advice, I like this! But that's just it. By my way of thinking,
Window-eyes isn't exactly dead. It's not going to change for the
immediate future, so to my mind, that means developements might be
forthcoming, just not right now. I'm ok with that.

If your computer and the software you have installed is doing what you
need it to do, then keep it until it dies, or there is some good reason
to update it.
Don't let others Pressure you to upgrade when there is no Good personal
reason to do so.
If your Job wants you to use Office 2016, and you work at home at times,
then this would be a good enough reason to consider upgrading. Just
because everyone else is running something Newer isn't a good enough
reason to upgrade and go through the hassle of re-learning many things
you thought you knew before the Big Change.
For those of us who are lamenting the apparent End of a Good Friend,
Window Eyes, we are not Happy about it. Some of us dislike JAWS for
various reasons, and we some day may need to choose another Screen
Reader if and when Window Eyes can no longer do what we need it to do.
Most of the discussion has been about alternatives to JAWS. Some are
Exploring moving over to the Apple Mac and Voice Over, which has its
Good Points, but has some Bad Points too. And then there is NVDA, which
is the cheaper alternative, but it too is not as strong as Window Eyes.
Few of us need to change right now, but this current exercise in looking
for alternatives is informative, and some here have shared their
experiences with Mac and NVDA and other Screen Readers. Which has all
been good.
But Joe, don't let us Pressure you into doing something you really have
no real need to do. If what you have is working fine enough, then stay
with what you have, and don't worry about whether or not you have the
money to upgrade. There might be a Day in the future when you will
need to think about making a change, but from what you say, that day
hasn't come yet.
<Smile> Relax, Sit back and let the rest of us entertain you with our
worries, and the results of our jumping into some other systems, and the
growing pains we experience. At least when your Day to make a change
comes, you will have some info that will make your own change a bit
easier. It won't create Money out of nothing, but at least you will
have a better idea which path to take. Apple, Android, NVDA, JAWS,
Voice Over, or even Narrator.
