Hi David,

As I have been exploring JAWS, I have been pleased with some things, and
Under whelmed with other things. In fact, I have been Spoiled by Window
Eyes. Its organization and the way it gave access to adjusting many of
its features is so much better.

Jaws on the other hand, takes some getting used to, little by little,
section by section. Jaws seems to be more Functional rather than
Intuitive or logical.

Jaws does what it does, and it actually does it well. I have found Jaws
to run more Stable than the latest edition of Window Eyes, and it reads
some Web Sites I enjoy going to better than Window Eyes.

Some Web Pages caused Jaws to mis-read, or not read at all, but Jaws has
yet to fail, crash, or Freeze.

The latest edition of Window Eyes unfortunately goes silent, or even
Freezes from time to time.

For the past week and a half, I've been using Jaws where I volunteer,
and really hammering it at times. I have yet to have the odd problem
when switching back and forth in Jarte from one document to another,
Lots of Cutting n pasting, saving files over and over as they are up
dated.

Window Eyes could get into a Loop where it would repeat the same line
over and over anytime any key was pressed. Even when pressing the CTRL
key would not quiet Window Eyes , but would repeat the same line again.

So far, Jaws has not failed even once.

-- And for what it is worth, before VFO gave the offer I couldn't refuse,
I was starting to use NVDA, and it too never acted up while doing the
same tasks.

One thing that I have not yet figured how to make Jaws do is to read a
list of items, say a list of files in a folder. Window Eyes would read
the file name, along with the other info about that file, and it would
tell you the file was the 7th of a list of 20 files.

I liked knowing the place in the list. And Jaws does not give you this
information. And Jaws does not repeat the name of the file when the top
most file or bottom most file has been reached. I could be at the top
file in a list of 10 files, and if I press the Up Arrow to go up Jaws
remains silent. Jaws does not repeat the name of the top most file.

Now Jaws may do this, I just have yet to stumble on the area where these
settings can be set.

jaws does what its Fans say it will do, and it does it reliably well.
Too bad finding almost anything in Jaws can be a bit of a challenge.
Maybe some day, Jaws with get the Re-do of its Interface it needs. But,
I won't be holding my breath. If Jaws doesn't have a Central Location
of most Jaws Scripts, then I doubt if they are going to put a lot of
effort into better organizing all the many settings to be found in Jaws.
The folks at Jaws are Happy with Functional, and if you can't figure it
out, or find it, then that is your problem, not theirs.

I did speak with Jaws Tech Support, and the guy was plesant, and Helpful.

Grumpy Dave
