When I was using dos and word perfekt and I forget what screenreader, it was a review key. I forget why I had to use it. Pam.

Hi Neville,

I think it's a throw-back to the days of terminal programs which would scroll text stream from BBS's or the like, and so ScrollLock would lock the screen, giving you a chance to read it before it scrolled away on you.
Nowadays, you can just map it to your own use.
I use it to mute and unmute my line-in, but this requires a program which allows you to set a hot key to toggle the mute status of such a device. I use Power Mixer, from www.actualsolutions.com, for which I wrote an app, Power Mixer Enhance. Power Mixer is pretty accessible under Jaws without the need for scripting to make it accessible.
But, obviously, I digress. (smile)

Best,

Rod

Subject: purpose of the scroll lock key

Hi,
In a list message, a member mentioned that the capslock or scroll lock
key could be used as the Jaws key instead of the insert key. I assume
this would be while using the laptop keyboard layout rather than the
desktop layout even if using a desktop. Is this correct?

Also, I have never used the scroll lock key for anything over the 30
years or so of using computers. So, can anyone inform me of its purpose
on the keyboard?

Thanks
Neville.
