In this laptop, the WiFI is on. It will connect to the network it has been configured when you tourn it on.

Subject: FW: Connecting to two different WIFI networks on windows 10 laptop

Hi Russ,

I should add that this is equivalent to the behavior of Apple devices' wifi always being on and looking for a network. The reason Windows wifi cards are off by default and behave according to their power management settings is to save power. So, if you disable the power management setting for your wifi card, your laptop will consume more power.

Best,

Rod

Hi Russ,

You could try this:

Right click on the Start button and, in the menu that appears, click on Device manager .
Double click on the Network adapters section to expand it.
Figure out which of the adapters in the list that appears is your computer's WiFi adapter and then right click on it. From the right click menu, click on Properties. In the dialog that appears, click on the Power management tab to navigate to it. Uncheck the Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power. Click on OK.

Best,

Rod

This is a windows 10 laptop computer. I use WIFI to connect to my home
network. I also use it to connect to a WIFI network at a different
location. With my ipad I can set the WIFI settings for each network and I
can connect to each one without doing anything. With the laptop I have to
change the adaptor option settings to connectt to the other network.

Russ,

Can you give more details on exactly what you are trying to do, which
devices are you trying to connect, etc.

Best,

Rod

Hi,

If you know the computer name of the machine you want to access, just type
the name, preceded by two backslashes, in the address bar of an explorer
window, and the available shared folders on that machine will appear in the
window.

Best,

Rod

One network is configure to use a fixed ip address, the other network is
configured to automatically assign a ip address. How can I connect with one
of these networks without having going into the adaptor option setting when
I want to connect to one of these networks?
