Hi, If you are on a button that you can't activate and you don't want to close and restart Internet Explorer, there are a few things to be sure to try first. If the button is in the tab order. SHIFT TAB and then TAB back to it. It is sometimes worth pressing ALT-TAB to move away from Internet Explorer and then ALT-TAB to get back to it. Turning Browse Mode off and on can sometimes unstick things. If you can tab to the button in question with Browse Mode off, that can work as well. Of course, restarting Window-Eyes might be an answer as well. Finally, routing the mouse pointer to the button and pressing the left click key, usually NUMPAD SLASH, might work. If one of these suggestions works, it might be a shortcut around the problem for now.
Now that I have had to move to JAWS and have experimented with other screen readers, I have found that it is very possible that problems you encounter are not strictly caused by Window-Eyes. In all fairness, some problems can be caused by how a web browser and a screen reader interact. Still, I have become increasingly frustrated with Internet Explorer and other screen readers as well. Unfortunately, there is no perfect combination. I have tried to use Google Chrome more, and sometimes it is very much better than Internet Explorer, but I have some sites where Internet Explorer still works the best. Some of what you are experiencing might well be happening even if Window-Eyes was still being developed, but given where things stand, being familiar with other browsers and other screen readers even if not JAWS is something that is worth your time, unfortunately. I have noticed that on some sites I can't activate a button. Sometimes I can shut down We and then the button will activate. This also can happen when ZoomText is running. I can't determine if this is a We and ZT problem or just an IE problem. Maybe I need to change to FF or chrome. Has other noticed this? _______________________________________________ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared.
