So, split everything up (this is related to that "make a catalog" option 1). Agree on a hard drive spec. Contact a hard drive retailer. Set up OAM, Inc. Appoint a highly trustworthy and/or bonded treasurer. Get 39 people to commit to donating $175 (or more in multiples of $175 if they have the equipment and money to do more). Once 39 people have signed up, send the money to the treasurer. Have the hard drive retailer mail the drives straight to the USGS. Have the USGS mail the drives straight to the donors. Have the donors process the drives and mail them to OAM, Inc. c/o Backblaze, who takes possession but not ownership of the drives. Have the treasurer buy 6 drives (for parity) with the leftover money, and ship them straight to OAM, Inc. c/o Backblaze. Have Backblaze build the Pod and mail it to TBA Hosting. Get 39 more people to sign up and repeat.
