I can't quite compare the data, since I run Kosmos on a core2 1.8 GHz machine (less than a year old). And off course, Kosmos works with much smaller dataset loaded directly into memory. It generates around 50-60 tiles/s (single thread). But basically, Mapnik does its job quite well :)
