It's entirely my fault that we have highway= The reasoning at the time was that I wanted to group similar features and where possible use "way" at the end as that was the common denominator for all of the generic "types" I was thinking about. If I had picked "roadway" I felt using it to describe a footpath might be less than intuitive for instance. So highway it became (very much thinking of highways and byways at the time). As Richard has pointed out, the Right of Way over a particular route is an entirely different matter and one that is best avoided unless we truly do know the legal situation.
