At present I don't believe that any grid-line structure is in place. Alberta is in a similar situation, the local standard map grid (ATS) is defined algorythmically. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alberta_Township_System
Many physical features, such as township/range roads follow these grid lines. There are 'free' (as in beer) shapefiles available from http://www.altalis.com unfortunately we don't (yet) have permission to use these in OSM. One would think that this could be added relatively easy to the database, and with a little effort be presented as an overlay on the slippy map on the website. In fact a single overlay could be used for all local map grid systems, just changing at boarders.
