I see what you mean - this is a bit like what happens if you plan a route out of Dublin towards Limerick - it takes a shorter route to the Naas Road rather than sticking to the dual carriageway N4 and M50. I wonder whether setting maxspeed on the roads concerned might provide enough hints to fix things.
