Hi, Thanks for the tips pointing to Viking! I am just starting to get to grips with the way it works, but it's definitely usefull. And probably for other things I still have to discover as of yet.
I am still curious to know why these time stamps are necessary. It seems an arbitrary decision by ??? vaguely motivated on the FAQ: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/FAQ#Why_didn.27t_my_GPX_file_upload_properly.3F "..it (gpx importer) won't take in GPS points without timestamps as they're to be used to work out speed and so on."!!! ...and so on... What is that supposed to mean? This decision needs more thought. Although I personally don't have a privacy issue here there are clearly those that do and I think openstreetmap should take that in consideration. If tracks are not uploaded or are changed using scripts, the "work(ing) out speed and so on" really has no meaning. Although it is mostly a practical issue for me (I find it very easy and quick to clean up my tracks in Josm) I think there really is something more important going on here. On the discussion page of the FAQ 80n put forward this question in Dec 2005!!! How do I find out who made this decision? I am not smart enough to figure out who edited that specific piece of text and when from the history page :( Lambert _______________________________________________ talk mailing list [email protected] http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk
