Hi all, The Software Freedom Day Mapping Fiesta was last weekend and here is a summary of the results.
Elmira, Ontario (pop. 11988) - one new OSMer had to put his own town on the map. He started the map of Elmira on his own, then headed to KW to join the team there for socializing. He even went out and mapped more on Sunday. Excellent start, Bob! Kitchener Waterloo, Ontario (pop. 560,000 combined) - Five teams and individuals, including some first-timers, joined in mapping various parts of K-W. There is talk of another party before the snow flies. Hamilton, Ontario (pop. 504,000) - The Friday night introduction to OSM attracted five new folks. Four went mapping Saturday around Hamilton. Recent activity near Niagara suggests that the entire Golden Horseshoe is getting some OSM support. Folks in Hamilton are talking about another party in the Spring. Montreal, Quebec (pop. 3.6M) - Four teams went out mapping afoot, on bikes and with a car for a diverse selection of tracks. They met at an ice cream parlour which is a tactic that I may have to adopt! They used both photo-napping and audio-mapping for their event. Sherbrooke, Quebec (pop. 147,000) - Yves organized his first mapping party on short notice and had a tremendous success. Four teams, including some students from the Geography department came out to map Sherbrooke and environs. They think that Sherbrooke can be completed with two more similar-sized mapping parties. Three cheers for Yves! Congratulations, Canadian mappers. Eighteen teams went mapping in four cities (and a town) in two provinces. Perhaps next year we will have both coasts and the north represented as well! _______________________________________________ talk mailing list [email protected] http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk
