Working a lot with large lakes with JOSM's lakewalker I nearly always get warnings saying
natural type coastline - unclosed way But for a lake (or sea) on the end of one coastline the next one starts and this continues for all coastlines building the lake. This warning should actually only show up when there is NO continuing coastline at the end of one coastline or a gap between two coastlines. Is this a validator bug?
