Hi, all, I am announcing that I changed the stage of my open photo mapping project, "MapPIN'on OSM" to beta released (testing and correcting errors).
The aim of MapPIN'on OSM is collecting geotagged photos even from non-OSM societies and providing them to OSM mappers as mapping sources. Now it provides the photo markers info by Photo KML for Potlatch and by mappinonosm plugin for JOSM. Any OpenStreetMap mappers can use them. (Now number of photos are just 2000 and most of them are in California, USA and Japan though.) There are similar projects before, OpenStreetPhoto and OpenStreetView. MapPIN'on OSM is a little different from them because MapPIN'on OSM collecting just geotagged data not photo jpeg files. The jpeg files are uploaded original author's blog or photo album site, and the photo files are linked by using RSS. The reason why I take this method is I am plane to gather geotagged photos from non-OpenStreetMap contributors. Most of people geotag to their photos for their travel blogs not for OpenStreetMap. But I think that they will allow us to use their photos as mapping sources if all they have to do is just providing RSS. So I will start to promote it outside of OpenStreetMap when I say full released. Before doing it, I needs tests for many kinds of blogs. Now, flickr, picasaweb, worldpress are well tested. I am going to test OpenStreetMap Diary, bloger and photobuket. If you know any other popular blogs or you use the other blogs, let me know. Of course, trying to register your RSS is better. I welcome providing your geotagged photos from OpenStreetMap mappers, too. It doesn't cause fatal problems less than one million photos. I'm introducing a interesting place. http://mappin.hp2.jp/?zoom=16&lat=35.66042&lon=139.68283&layers=B000FTT See the detail at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/MapPIN%27on_OSM Thank you, Shun "nazotoko" Watanabe _______________________________________________ talk mailing list [email protected] http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk
