This is a good step forward, but please don't buy it that easily. Famous map collectioner (no economic profit whatsoever!) just sentenced for 4 years in jail. No fun.
Right now we're in discussion another emerging investigation with a paraplanerist who is 'remote sensing' with his Canon. More government control and spending on mapping related stuff - yes. More openness and less regulations or at least clarity - no. Russian government does not have required regulations for 'public' geodata - a somewhat official answer from the cadaster authority is sitting on my desk telling: Me: Is this data public Them: Yes, according to state law blahblahblah this data is public. Me: Does it mean we can do this and that with it? Them: Regulations on this topic do not exist. - Maxim http://gis-lab.info Вы писали 25 июня 2010 г., 20:00:23: JS> Mapping and cadastral information for Russia have not previously been JS> openly and freely available.
