If we have to make the idealist/pragmatist split then I'd say clinging to BY-SA for data is idealistic and changing to another licence is pragmatic. But I don't think it's useful to describe things in these terms. We all have guiding principles, we all have material interests that are threatened, and we are all saying that some loss is acceptable to support those principles and address those threats.
