For those of you not familiar with Layar[1], it is an augmented reality app for phones. You hold your phone up in front of you and it superimposes POIs on the picture coming in from the camera using GPS and compass to tell where you are and where you are looking.
Anyway, my university recently made a Layar layer to identify campus features. Since I know about "geographic stuff" I have been assigned to help improve it. To try and get up to speed I was thinking about making my own OSM based layer for fun. When I looked a couple of weeks ago there didn't seem to be much there. But yesterday I saw an "OSM" layer[2] right at the top of the featured layer list on my phone! I haven't seen any chatter about it on IRC or on the mailing lists and was just curious who was behind it. The only info in the layer description is the URL floop.org.uk which is presumably where the API endpoint for the layer runs.
