The image shown here http://www.flickr.com/photos/59240783@N08/5420311744/ shows a color-coded view of the current state of OSM mapping in the US. Non-Tiger data is shown in green, while areas that are Tiger-only are shown in red. As you can see, OSM editing is nearly everywhere already and there are some areas where it is completely predominant. This is a huge improvement over a few months ago. Go team!
