Yes, because I have had complaints from people being "friended" by a known obnoxious community member whom nobody wanted to be friends with ;)

Not every non-meaningful feature must be made more meaningful. Burying such a feature is also an option ;)

Personally I would consider none of them useful but maybe that's because I just don't "get" social. Maybe we should allow teenage users to shoot nude pictures of themselves, upload, and share with friends.
