Yeah expanding nodes into buildings is pretty standard practice for me whenever I'm touching an area, assuming the available imagery is good enough. I sometimes also make the old node a part of the new way but remove all tags from it. So I guess that would leave the way with an odd shape after the license change. Of coures in my case a lot of them are imported GNIS nodes... but not all. Looking at each object before I do this will be a pain. I might be willing to but that is going to be above the heads of most mappers.
