If you don't need a track display, you can save some money and get simple dedicated trackloggers. We used http://www.amaryllo.com/almooj/sports-products/amaryllo-trip-tracker-gps-sports-device-7.html in the Netherlands and those worked well. Advantage over phone apps I found is better accuracy and battery life. The Amaryllo (also branded as NaviGPS and possibly more) is just one example. There's a whole range of affordable trackloggers.
