I don't know. People around here (NW Kent) seem to vary in which way they prefer to go. TomTom opts for the M20.
I just used project-osrm.org to plan a route from home to Alton Towers and was surprised to find it took me through central London - over Westminster Bridge. Most people in their right mind would go through Dartford Tunnel and round the M25.
