I have updated openstreetmapdata.com. You'll find coastlines and land and water polygons generated from current ODbL data as shapefiles for download. From now on this data will again be updated daily.
This data is generated with the OSMCoastline program (it is Open Source, you can also run it yourself, see http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSMCoastline). You can use the data as a replacement for the processed_p shapefiles when rendering Mapnik tiles. To help debugging coastline problems we have added a coastline view to the Geofabrik OSM Inspector at http://tools.geofabrik.de/osmi/?view=coastline . A more detailed description of this view with tips on how to fix the coastline data is at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Inspector/Views/Coastline . This view will also be updated daily (also from the result of the OSMCoastline program).
