Hi. This week, the National Land Survey of Iceland released a huge amount of data publically accessible free of charge. The general public and companies have already started using the data and one company intends to release a complete 3D map of Iceland, largely based on said data. The license for the data is unfortunately incompatible with OSM's Contributor's Terms at the moment but it's a work in progress which will hopefully be solved quickly. When we are successful, which should happen eventually, the Icelandic OSM community might need some tagging and import help in the appropriate mailing lists.
You can see a news coverage (in Icelandic) in the link below which has a graphic demonstration of a 3D map of Surtsey ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surtsey). The island is currently not accessible to the public due to scientific research. http://www.mbl.is/frettir/sjonvarp/79397/ With regards, Svavar Kjarrval
