I did that once when I visited another part of the country. I did end up meeting one mapper. Not much of a trial, but it shows that at least some people want to involved. I don't believe that the majority would find occasional announcements unwelcome. Especially if we had a way of opting out of messages. There is a Welcome Working Group.
