it depends on the schema and a couple of options like hstore:
- osm2pgsql "mapnik" schema without hstore is less than 300GB :

- osm2pgsql "mapnik" schema + hstore is above 300GB:
http://munin.openstreetmap.fr/free.org/osm13.openstreetmap.fr/postgres_size_ALL.html

- osm2pgsql for nominatim looks around 1TB as seen on
http://munin.openstreetmap.org/openstreetmap/poldi.openstreetmap/postgres_size_nominatim_9_1_main.html

These graphs also show the rate at which storage need in increasing...
