I developed a tool some time ago to analyze many aspects of the road network. See the output here:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSMonitor/Poland_Major_Roads Unfortunately I don't have time to work on it anymore so it was launched only for Poland, Serbia and Czech Republic. It would be possible to run it globally but you'd need to deploy it on a sufficiently powerful server.
