There is a really wide range of opinions on using forums vs. mailing lists, in the end it simply boils down to a matter of taste. The current OSM forum server is operated by a long time community member, not by the core admin group, which makes is slightly less "official", but there are numerous OSM communities that prefer using forums over the lists, there are some that are split and there are some that just use the mailing lists. > > I'm also interested in the 'tension' I feel between the Not-For-Profit > situation OSM is "in" and Corporate interests (Ref: [Osmf-talk] Death > and evolution) and how there is a desire to form a Funding WG > (Ref: [Osmf-talk] Funding WG). It is not quite so simple (nothing in OSM tends to be), and the fault-line is likely not between for-profit - non-profit, but more big OSMF vs. small OSMF. Or put differently between a top-down, strong central control structure and a bottom-up de-centralised, federated structure. As all black and white statements it ignores all the grey that exists in between. Simon
