Searching osm.org I do with the bookmarked OSM search using a hotkey in the browser's address bar. Now I do use osm.org regularly to look up users, edits, objects etc. So when I would search for a restaurant or anything it is unforeseeable which bbox/map view will get loaded. Because of this I said that imho a "search the bounding box" is of little use (to me).
