In some aspects wikipedia is completely different than OSM, for example WP has the rule of "no original research", we on the other hand want exactly that (via survey). Adding a WP article on an object would require you finding citable third party sources with information on the object, it is not enough that you've been there and have seen say a sign is not enough.
