There is also the date namespace idea for tags. ( https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/Date_namespace ). Townlands.ie, an OSM data consumer, supports this for historic names in Ireland ( https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/rorym/diary/40092 )
