I'm sure there are ways for OSM to do better outreach, and that there are people who don't realise we would value their contributions.

I think these wordings are set on the openstreetmap-website github project ( https://github.com/openstreetmap/openstreetmap-website ), so I think you should open a (few) github issues there with those good suggestions ( https://github.com/openstreetmap/openstreetmap-website/issues/new ). Posting to this mailing list as a way to talk to the OSM community is certainly a good thing.

(It would be interesting to A/B test wording etc., but that's a larger project)

Looking at

I thought it was not very engaging and we might want to make some small adjustments to make it more inviting for people to contribute.

Specifically the paragraph:

    Community Driven

OpenStreetMap's community is diverse, passionate, and growing every day. Our contributors include enthusiast mappers, GIS professionals, engineers running the OSM servers, humanitarians mapping disaster-affected areas, and many more. To learn more about the community, see the OpenStreetMap Blog <https://blog.openstreetmap.org/>, user diaries <https://www.openstreetmap.org/diary>, community blogs <https://blogs.openstreetmap.org/>, and the OSM Foundation <https://www.osmfoundation.org/> website.

it points to the official blog, user diaries, community blogs and the osmf website.

My suggestion would be to

1. add “people like you, e.g. ” before “enthusiast mappers, GIS professionals, ...”  and to

2. add “how to contribute” as link to “ https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/How_to_contribute <https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/How_to_contribute>” right after “see” and before “the OpenStreetMap blog, user diaries.....”

What do you think?

Cheers Martin
