unter RH 6.x sieht es bei mir 
so:
[chris@pegasus mail]$ ls -l
insgesamt 2724
-rw-rw----   1 chris    mail      2782524 Jul 27 08:07 chris
-rw-------   1 root     root            0 Feb  4 04:23 root

aus

und der Gruppe 'mail' gehoert nur der Mail-Dienst an.
also doch Privatsache ;)
