I thought I would give an update on my difficulties with establishing a working mail box with BT Yahoo. Basically I remembered that I had another email address which I had not used for some years on Clara Net. Fairly pessimistically I entered the settings for Clara Net. However, although the phone setup wizard got the pop settings wrong , It did insert the correct smtp settings . For the record the phone inserted a pop address of pop.clara.net whilst in fact it is pop3.clara.net. After making this amendment to the pop address I tried to connect and Basically it worked immediately and without problem. I have no problems sending and receiving emails via my phone now. All of my email folders are accessible and can be read with Talks now and I am pleased with this aspect of my phone .
I have now deleted the BT yahoo mail box as nothing I did to amend the security or authentification settings made a difference. The lesson from my experience appears to be that you are likely to find other email providers much easier than BT yahoo to set up.
