Absolutely Maurice. Perhaps Alan should write a manual using N 8 and Talks.
Nothing wrong with your English either Alan.

Subject: [Talks] some helpful notes for N8 and talks user
Importance: High

note: this post may be not dedicate for all members, but hopefully can be
useful to those that need it. secondly, sorry for my
english as it is not my native.

1. turn off conversations view in messaging. this step will ensure messages
will be view as like older nokia phones in the inbox,
the default is set to conversations which is look alike the nokia browser.
to set to inbox, go to "messaging -> options -> message
view -> inbox."

2. set new alarm clock. talks 5.20 does not work correctly in edit field
such as in the alarm clock. but however, talks user still
can set alarm clock by themselves with the following steps. tap on the clock
at the top left of the homescreen and the alarm clock
screen will open, press on new alarm and now you can change the
time/discriptions/repeat, downarrow to the discriptions field and
bring up the virtual keyboard. so, to change the time, while the virtual
keyboard is open, uparrow back to the time field and key-in
the desire time. note, while at the time field, talks does not announce the
button on the virtual keyboard when you touch it, so you
need to be more creative.

3. the 2nd and the 3rd page of the homescreen for the N8 is useless for
talks 5.20 user, therefore you can just remove it. dont
worry, you can add the screen back on at the later time.

4. be-careful when handling the phone, as it has 3 method to unlock the
screen and keys. the first method is of course using the
unlock slider located at the right side of the phone. the second method is,
press the power button once and tap the bottom center
once and the screen and keys will be unlock. the third method is, press the
menu key twice and tap the bottom center once and the
screen and keys will be unlock. the bottom center as i am refering is when
you slide your finger, talks will announce "middle", the
same button also to change from page one to page two to page three of the
homescreen.

5. there are times that talks make your phone hang, or maybe some apps
making your phone unpleasant, and the wirst thing is you cant
remove the battery, what you can do?. dont worry, you can have a soft reboot
design special for N8 and E7. to do so, if your phone
hang, press and hold down the power button about 8 seconds or until you feel
3 vibrates, and let go your finger. after the 3
vibrates, the phone is completely turn off, so just switch on again your
phone as usual.

6. if you dont have unlimited data package with your cariour, you must
be-careful when using N8, as it may eat up your credits very
fast. however, there's a setting you can turn off before you insert your sim
card into the phone. go to "menu -> settings ->
connectivity -> settings -> data use in home country." you can choose
between automatic/home network only/always ask/WLAN only. so,
the best of course is always ask or WLAN only, this way the phone will not
connect to the internet without your knowledge.

7. for talks 5.20, 2 new editional keystrokes added for N8/E7/C7/C6-01
phone, talks+power to call someone or answer calls. this
keystroke can be useful in the following situations, in the contacts book,
in a sms message or in the call log. the second keystroke
is talks+longPower to put down a call.

8. for talks user, to switch between tabs, longpress uparrow, select the tab
using up/downarrow and finally, longpress downarrow to
select the tab and switch to the tab selected.

9. for talks user, you can switch profile or edit the current profile by
tapping an icon at the homescreen below the date which
talks cannot see it completely. the icon is at the bottom of the date and
towards the right side of the phone. or alternatively you
can use the power button, but the power button method did not allow to edit
the current profile, it is only switching profiles.

10. the mail application in N8 is useable with talks. if someone need more
details about it, i may have to write in another post, as
it is quite long.

11. i also have found the method of editing the homescreen without a sighted
help, but it is too complicated to describe or maybe i
should fine a time to write it properly or even by the time, newer version
of talks has fix it.

i think this is what i can think off right now. if anyone need to ask more
about N8 with talks, kindly reply to this post. i hope
the mods allow it.
