ARGENTINE TANGO WORKSHOPS
with ALBERTO and VALORIE
September 30 - October 3, 1999

TANGO ARGENTINO DALLAS welcome back Argentine Tango Dance Instructors
Alberto Paz, the TangoMan and Valorie Hart, La Mariposa of Planet Tango, for
their second visit to Dallas. Alberto, grew up in the streets of Buenos
Aires, and Valorie, is an American. They are well-known for their smooth,
creative and elegant dancing style; for their enthusiasm, exuberance,
patience and zest for Tango. They have earned a solid international
reputation for their superb, thorough, conceptually clear and fair
instruction. Alberto is also a writer, a historian and a lecturer on
Argentine Tango. Valorie is an artist who possesses a natural sensitivity
for the Argentine Tango, the music, the dance and its culture. They publish
El Firulete, The Argentine Tango Magazine. They teach the time-honored craft
of improvisation as it is socially practiced in clubs and salons of Buenos
Aires. Accordingly, they encourage both new and experienced dancers to work
together in classes and workshops, to learn to dance on the spur of the
moment, to follow the music rather than prescribed steps, and to create
their own patterns and figures from a set of simple, basic templates.

[W1] - Thursday, Sept. 30 - All Levels Argentine Tango Floorcraft, 7- 9 PM
(Practice from 9-10 PM)
For dancers of all levels wishing to understand the concept of improvisation
to dance with freedom and confidence. Emphasis on posture, balance and
musicality. A series of figures provide the bases for displacements on the
line of dance, turns and changes of direction.

[W2] - Friday, Oct. 1 - All Levels Argentine Tango Club Style, 8 - 10 PM
A workshop focused on the rhythm of Tango and the ability to improvise on a
crowded dance floor. A must for those who experience difficulty listening
and dancing to the music. The only way to dance in the clubs of downtown
Buenos Aires.

[W3] - Saturday, Oct. 2 - All Levels Argentine Tango Technique, 10 AM-12:30 PM
During the first hour (10-11 AM) men and women will attend separate
technique classes. During the second hour (11:30AM-12:30 PM) men and women
will work together applying the concepts of "mark" and "response."
Women with Valorie: This is a class given like a ballet barre class (tango
barre!), designed for all levels of dancers. Material addressed and worked
on: balance, embellishments, stretching, giros, music identification and
interpretation, confidence enhancement, body management. This is a good
class for those starting out, and an excellent maintenance program for
experienced dancers. The material is consistent and repetitive in the spirit
of a ballet class, crafted to allow a woman to own her technique and use it
to express herself, her body type, her musicality and to feel the enjoyment
of confidence when being able to respond and dance with any and every man
Men with Alberto: In the traditional spirit of the old days when men passed
on figures and moves to each other, this class focuses on the creation of
figures by understanding body management for the execution of enrosques and
giros. Issues of posture, balance and marking of the women steps are
thoroughly analyzed.

Saturday, Oct. 2, 2 PM Exhibition by Alberto and Valorie at the Dallas
Walnut Hill Branch Library, 9495 Marsh Lane.

[W4] - Sunday, Oct. 3 - Vals cruzado, 12 noon - 2 PM
A workshop designed to drill men and women with concepts of improvisation to
the rhythm of the vals criollo. A series of patterns will be developed to
combine turns and displacements.

[W5] - Sunday, Oct. 3 - Argentine Tango Improvisation Techniques, 2:30 - 5 PM
A workshop designed for all levels of experience. Building on the concepts
of mark and response and the structure of the turns, men and women are
drilled on the technical aspects of body alignment for pattern execution.
Women dance with confidence with any and every man, and men develop
confidence and finesse in order to communicate with any and every woman on
the dance floor.
