Triple Milonga Weekend in Colorado May 19 - 21

May 19 - 21 will feature a much bigger than usual weekend of tango
activities in Denver, Colorado. True Tango fanatics may wish to come
in a few days early or stay a few days longer to make it a full week.

Colorado is an active community of tango dancers that started about
five years ago. Our style of dancing tends strongly toward social
tango, rather than fantasy & figures. The close-embrace style is
winning over a large percentage of the dancers. Our Tuesday Tango
Colorado Practice usually gets 60 - 80 people. The Friday Mercury
milonga usually has 100 - 120 people.

Most events are close to Downtown Denver so you can easily manage
without a rental car.

Live Tango Weekend: "Reminiscing the 1900s" Dan Diaz & Guest Musicians

Mercury Milongas May 19 - 21 feature the music of Dan Diaz & Tango
Camerata with tango Jam-sessions Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This
time Dan brings in a violinist, guitarists and singers for a whole
weekend of live tango music for listening and for dancing. There will
be a special emphasis on earlier forms of tango music from the 1910s,
1920s and 1930s. But modern tango music will also be present.

Visiting musicians include:
 - Victor Sanchez Argentine Guitarist: Montreal, Canada
 - Karim Memi, Argenintine Singer from Kansas City, MO
 - Tango Lorca: Christine Bledes (Violin) & Beau Bledsoe (Guitar):
Kansas City, MO
 - Robin Ruscio, Double Bass: Denver, CO
 - Stephan Griffin, African Drum: Denver, CO
Victor Sanchez will be presenting tango guitar workshops on May 17 &
18 in Denver.

The final live music event will be a Tango Brunch at 12:00 on Sunday,
with music that is more oriented to listening. Friday and Saturday
will be for dancing.

School or "Tango Hostel" in Nijmegen, Holland he has been running for

his first visit to the Western, United States.

Travel & Lodging Tips:

Frontier and United Airlings have hubs in Denver. Frontier often
announces deep discount flights on Wednesday for travel the
immediately following Saturday.

The Friday milonga gets rolling by 10:00, so you can arrive at the
airport at 8:00 and make it downtown in time for the party at the
Mercury.

Denver Lodging:
http://lodging.yahoo.com/lodging/Colorado/Metropolitan_Areas/Denver_Metro/

All Denver events are very near downtown Denver, so you can manage
without a rental car. Our community is friendly if you require a lift
home after the milongas.

Downtown Hotels are nice but more expensive (search in the 80202 zipcode).

Hotels on Quebec Street near the old Stapleton Airport offer better
prices than downtown, and are still reasonably close. You would
probably need a rental car.

There is a modest Youth Hostel a block from the Mercury Cafe:
 - Melbourne International Youth Hostel
 - 303-292-6386
 - 607 22nd St
 - DENVER CO 80205
