A Special Tango Weekend in beautiful Santa Barbara

On Saturday & Sunday, July 29 & 30, The Santa Barbara Tango Community will
once again host two of our favorite teachers: Nestor & Patricia Ray.
We will offer workshops in Tango Milonguero, Milonga, & Vals Cruzado for
all levels on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons. (details below)

Saturday night will be another "Tango @ the Carrillo Ballroom" including:
an introductory class (7pm)
a performance by Nestor & Patricia (8pm)
dancing in the ballroom (9pm-midnite) to LIVE MUSIC by Dino Duran &
'Tango Tres.'

Nestor is often called "the last of the milongueros." He grew up in Buenos
Aires dancing to all the famous orchestras of the '50s, and was well known
as a fine dancer by his contemporaries. Years later, he is equally renowned
as a teacher in great demand all over the world. Robert Duvall originally
brought him to the USA as his personal teacher, after studying with him in
Bs. As. He later taght John Travolta & Sharon Stone. In 1996 he was a
featured instructor at the Stanford University Tango Weeks. These days his
time is spent traveling between the US, Europe, & Argentina for workshops &
performances.
One reason for his great popularity is the fact that Nestor is "fluent" in
several different "dialects" of Tango:
His 'Salon' is elegant & passionate;
his 'Canyengue' has the texture & swing of afro-cuban rhythms;
his 'Milonguero style' is rhythmic & playful;
his 'Orillero' crackles with rapid, precise footwork;
and his 'FantasÃa' is nothing short of spectacular.

This weekend's workshop will focus on Milonguero Style and Milonga, both of
which feature the broken rhythms of 'traspie.' Nestor will also teach a
Vals Cruzado that is more than just a waltzed version of ordinary tango.

All classes will be at Carrillo Recreation Center, 100 E. Carrillo St.
Beginner/Intermediate 1-3pm both days $25 per day
Intermediate/Advanced 4-6:30pm Saturday $30
4-7pm Sunday $35
