Fellow Tangueros Many of you have already been asking the date of Portland Oregon's October TangoFest and I originally responded with "Fri-Sun Oct 27-29". HOWEVER, due to unforeseen and uncontrollable circumstance (i.e., the Crystal Ballroom screwed up again this year) we have had to move the event to one week earlier. SO, the rough schedule for this event now is:
FRI OCT 20, 2000 Classes from 10:00 AM-5:00 PM Gillians Practica at the Temple Ballroom 8:00-Midnight SAT OCT 21, 2000 Classes from 10:00 AM-5:00 PM Alexe's Bariten Milonga at the Adreana Ballroom 8:00-Midnight Sun OCT 22, 2000 Classes from 10:00 AM-3:00 PM Crystal Tango Ball with the Tango Devino Orchestra from Seattle I sincerely apologize for this change and hope that you can still join us. In case you have not attended in the past, the Crystal Tango Ball is an incredible event. The ballroom has a 7500 sq ft sprung floor and anywhere from 400-600 people will show up. The October TangoFest was started in 1997. The original concept was to tap into the large number of very talented teachers and dancers in nearby communities (i.e., Seattle and San Francisco) in order to provide our people with a positive and unforgettable first exposure to Argentine Tango. Fortunately, over the past couple years we have also found that many Argentine teachers have been kind enough to join us and teach and perform at our TangoFest. Last year we had 18 teachers, of which 8 were Argentines. The concept worked and we are no longer a fledgling tango scene. Over the past few years we have seen a phenomenal growth, strength, and unity in our tango community. I would personally like to thank each of you who have visited and danced in our community, and I would like to invite you to join us, dance with us, hang out with us, and generally schmooze tango with us at this year's event. Also, if you are in contact with some particular teacher that you would like me to invite (keeping in mind that we can pay only a moderate of travel expenses), please let me know and help me make contact with them.
