6) EVENTS, SHOWS and MORE

a) AN ARGENTINEAN SPIN ON THE MITH OF FAUST

By Martín Bauer & Equipo de Trabajo October 11 -14 [Wed-Sat] 8pm $20
Post-performance discussion: October 12 [Thu]
"A modern, witty, and accomplished combination of music and drama."
The Kitchen brings to New York the premiere of Incursión. Tema: Fausto‹the
highly acclaimed Argentinean music-theater work by composer
Incorporates the rhythms and poetry of the vast Argentinean pampas into an
original contemporary score. Libretto
is by underground actress/playwright María Inés Aldaburu, direction by
Carlos Lipsic, and musical direction by Santiago Santero.

Fausto is based on Fausto Criollo (Creole Fausto), a satirical poem by
renown Argentinean poet, Estanislao del Campo.
It recounts the impressions of a gaucho who attended the premiere of
Charles Gounod's Faust at the Buenos Aires Opera in 1866, and believed that
every event unfolding on stage was real.
Deeply rooted in the tradition of Gaucho poetry, it features the voices of
four actors and a narrator with video projections of Argentinean landscapes
and film material from F. W. Murnau's Faust. Music is scored for a string
trio (looking towards Europe) and two guitars (looking towards the pampas),
with percussion functioning like a nexus that unites both latitudes.

5) FERNANDO OTERO and the X-Tango Quintet
October 17th, 2000 8pm @ Galapagos Art Space

Hector DelCurto-bandoneon
Pablo Aslan-bass
Susan Heerema-violin
Eliana Mendoza-cello
Fernando Otero-piano
guest artist: Saeko Miyake-dancer
The ghost of Astor Piazolla, Fernando Otero has led this brilliant quintet
for ten years. Enormously talented and totally engaging, this local artist
plans to become somewhat of a house artist. His music is, at once, a relic
of tango past with newer, more contemporary synchopations to keep the ear
on edge. Should be worthwhile.

GALAPAGOS: 70 N 6th St., Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY
(between Whyte St. and Kent Ave.) Tel: (718) 782-5188
$10
