DETAILS ON FABIAN SALAS & CAROLINA DEL RIVERO WORKSHOPS (NOV 18-19, 2000) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- FABIAN SALAS is a multitalented tango teacher, dancer, and choreographer. He was a member of the original cast (1994-1995) of the award-winning (Best Musical) Argentine Tango show "Gotan," and also performed in the stage show "El Patio de la Morocha" (1993-1994) at the "Teatro Municipal General San Martin" in Buenos Aires. He was one of the dancers in the movie "Evita" and one of the three principal dancers in the award-winning movie "The Tango Lesson." Tireless researcher and maestro, Fabian Salas has opened new ways in the conception of the dance, creating an unmistakable style of Tango. He is the cofounder (with Gustavo Naveira) of the CITA Tango Congresses in Buenos Aires, and is much sought after as a teacher and performer by the tango lovers around the world. CAROLINA DEL RIVERO has been dancing ballet and modern for most of her life, including studying at the prestigious Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires and then at the Teatro San Martin. She has studied and danced Tango with several renowned Tango maestros in Buenos Aires, including Gustavo Naveira and Fabian Salas, and has performed in numerous Tango Shows in Buenos Aires and around the world. Breakdown of the structure of Tango and its most important elements. Intro to turns (giros). (Beginners (with T1) and up.) 3:00 - 4:30 pm: T3: Intermediate Tango. More on leading & following turns. Sacadas & boleos. (Intermediate and up.) 4:45 - 6:15 pm: V1: Tango Vals. Understanding Vals (waltz) rhythm. Various vals combinations. Auburn Post is air-conditioned and spacious. Classes are not expected to sell out. No partner is necessary--there will be partner changes. Wear leather-soled shoes comfortable for dancing. Light snacks will be provided during main workshop break. Dress is casual for the workshops. However, "La Milonga" is a more formal dance and appropriate attire is requested. You are strongly encouraged to take workshops progressively to get the most out of the weekend.
