2001: A TANGO ODYSSEY
AT DANCE MANHATTAN

NEW YEAR'S EVE, from 10 p.m.
Tango lovers from all over the world will gather on December 31st, 2000 to
"dance in" the New Year at one of the hottest dance studios in New York City,
from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The gala event, sponsored by Esmeralda's Irregular Tango Salon, will feature
a huge wall-sized projection of the Times Square festivities including the
dropping of the ball at midnight. It will be just like being there, except
we'll be warm, on a gorgeous wooden dance floor, watching it all to a tango
music background.
The event, principally designed for enthusiasts of Argentine tango, will also
include splendid splashes of salsa and swing.
The major highlight of the evening will be the tango performance by Angel
Garcia and Rosa Collantes, very, very bright rising stars of the New York
tango scene.
There will be a short "planned impromptu" act after 3:00 a.m.
A different kind of highlight will be The Second Annual Light-Yourself Up
Contest. Participants get a chance to win back the admission price by
decorating themselves, battery-lit, from head to toe or parts thereof.
Contestants will "lighten-up" at midnight, and prizes will be awarded at
l2:30 a.m.
(I came up with this bright idea last year in case of a millennial
electricity glitch. It was such a smash, we decided to do it every year.)
The "Tango Odyssey" admission price includes complete dinner buffet, wine,
champagne, entertainment and, after 3 a.m., croissants, bagels, and hot
drinks for hardy partiers still in the house.
An art installation / environment is being created to greet guests.
