WORKSHOPS WITH BROOKE BURDETT, FEB. 3-4
Brooke Burdett returns to Boston!
Brooke, a long-time favorite teacher and friend to many Boston dancers,
will be teaching workshops during the weekend of February 3rd and 4th,
2001.
Q: What makes Brooke a unique teacher?
A: Brooke brings a unique blend of North American sensibilities to a deep
personal understanding from her 4 years of living in Buenos Aires. A
life-long dancer, Brooke's effort and enthusiasm helped initiate the Denver
tango community in the mid-90's. Her drive to intensify her tango study
compelled her to move to Argentina in early 1997.
Q: And her experience?
A: Brooke has worked with many world renown tango instructors and dancers.
Of her most influential teachers, she credits Gustavo Naveira & Olga Besio,
Fabian Salas, Chicho, Graciela Gonzalez, Florencia Taccetti, Mingo & Esther
Pugliese, Daniel Trenner, and Juan Bruno. She also attributes her knowledge
to the immeasurable amount of time spent dancing in the salons of Buenos
Aires, as well as her many hours spent teaching and performing both in the
U.S. and in Argentina. Brooke's style is a blend of the old and new styles
-- she's experienced both in the "traditional" salon style tango, and in
the newer approaches toward technique and improvisation associated with
"new tango."
Q: What does Brooke bring to the classroom?
A: Brooke is an expert leader and follower. She works closely with
students on both open and closed embrace, emphasizing proper technique,
relaxed attentiveness, and musicality. Through exercises and sequences, she
introduces methods of improvisation and "play" that allow students to
explore the limitless possibilities of the dance and to develop their own
personal style. Brooke brings a world of knowledge to the classroom,
whether it's the technique and style of the dance, the Argentine culture,
the spoken and unspoken codes of the milonga, or the roles and
relationships between men and women/leaders and followers.
Listen closely to her insights, she'll not only provide you with
information on how to perfect your dance and style, she may even give you a
different perspective into the dynamics and the social conventions of
actually getting onto the dance floor. Few teachers will share their
insights so openly and so cogently. It's no wonder we want her
back in Boston!
