Lo de Celia has become a popular milonga on Saturday nights. If you don't have a reservation, you could be turned away at the door. There's been a full house for the past few weeks with excellent music and air-conditioning during the hot summer nights. And yes, men are wearing suits and ties in this milonga.
Valeria and Enrique Sueldo will be teaching tango milonguero classes on Wednesdays from 7-9pm. They will give a free class on February 28; thereafter the class is $10. Enrique brought me to see the new location today. It's a large space with wood parquet floor adequate for a large class. Enrique has been teaching for 15 years and is fluent in English, a great benefit for those of you who don't speak Spanish. The address is Rodriguez Pena 254 (one block from Callao and 1-1/2 blocks from Corrientes). Copes Tango Copes continues at Teatro Avenida during February and probably March. [Johana Copes and Hernan Perez were married on December 22.] Drop by the Tango Chamuyo with Pichi on Tuesdays from 5-7pm at Academia Cafe, Callao 368 near Corrientes. Afterwards, it's only a two block walk to El Arranque or El Beso to dance. Final casting for Roberto Duvall's film "Assassination Tango" was done yesterday at La Galeria del Tango.
