Tango in Denver
Memorial Day Weekend
May 25 - 27, 2001

Come! Join us in Denver for the first annual
Memorial Day Triple Milonga Weekend!
Three milongas - two with live music, one outdoors!
        Need housing help? Call us!
        Want workshops? We got 'em!
Want a gorgeous sunset? No guarantee on that one, but perhaps.
We, the tangueros and tangueras of Colorado, invite you to join us!
The welcome sign is out!

Friday, May 25, 9:30pm - 2am
 and
Saturday, May 26, 10pm - 2am
Live Music with The Tango Camerata
Mercury Cafe, 2199 California St., Denver
with Daniel Diaz on bandoneon, Lia Davis on piano,
Django Moura on drums, Ryan Drickie on violin,
        Robin Ruscio on double bass.
        $15 each milonga.

Sunday, May 27, 5pm - 10pm
        Outdoor Milonga to deejayed music
        Cheesman Park Pavilion, Denver
11th & Race, east side of the Park
        Sponsored by Tango Colorado.
        Free. *
This is the same location at which we danced last Labor Day Sunday
        to a beautiful Colorado sunset!
This event also includes a potluck picnic. Tango Colorado will
provide paper plates & cups & plastic silverware. Locals are asked
to bring barbecue grills, and of course, food.

* Benefit for Dan Diaz:
Although this outdoor milonga is free, donations are requested
to help Daniel Diaz purchase a new bandoneon,
as his old one, though a beautiful instrument, is wearing out.

This magical instrument, the "heart" of any tango band, will cost
quite a bit of dough, but it is well worth it. Donations of $20 or
more are encouraged, though each should donate according to his or her
        own situation.

Donations can be mailed to Tango Colorado, 9026 Ammons Court,
Westminster, CO 80021. They can also be given to any Tango
Colorado officer, always found at Denver Practicas and
usually at Mercury Milongas. (If you donate by check, please make
it out to Tango Colorado with a notation that it is for Dan Diaz.)

P.S. from Cammie (Tango Colorado officer). You can make a donation
even if you are not able to attend the outdoor milonga.
Tango Colorado started taking donations last week and will be
        taking them through the summer.

Tango Workshops Saturday & Sunday
12:30-4:15 pm, Saturday, at Latin FX
1:45-4:15 pm, Sunday, at the Mercury Cafe
Saturday and Sunday have casual Argentine Tango Classes
with local instructors Lisa Battan, Heather Morrow and Tom Stermitz.
3 classes Saturday at Latin FX, 2828 Speer Blvd, Denver
2 classes Sunday at the Mercury Cafe, 2199 California St.
Workshops will focus on navigation and vocabulary for dancing
social Argentine tango when the floors are crowded.
Tom writes "these classes are perfect for visitors to meet and
mix with local Denver Dancers". How true!
Class prices are $10 each or take all five for $40.
For details, see the website or contact Tom Stermitz.

Lodging Assistance with Tango Colorado:
Tango Colorado members have offered to assist with housing.
We should be able to find a place for most visitors.

The Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown Denver is an extremely
convenient alternative for those who wish to stay in a Hotel.
There are many other downtown hotels, only a few blocks or
a short taxi ride to the Mercury Cafe.
Downtown Denver is also a short taxi ride to Cheesman Park and
        Latin FX.

Note: A Tango Colorado officer asked me to add the following:

Yes, we tango enthusiasts in Colorado are doing Triple Milonga
Weekends on both Memorial Weekend and Labor Day Weekend.

Please do not be confused by our hosting two such weekends.
Both will be a lot of fun, a real tango high, so come to
whichever you can attend, or to both!

Contrary to a posting by a local enthusiast,
- The Memorial Day Weekend event is not "smaller scale".
- Yes, everyone is invited, no matter where you live, whether
Seattle or Atlanta, Los Angeles or Boston, Japan or Germany.
This event is not merely for those within driving distance.
- And no, Memorial Day Weekend is not "a practice" for
  Labor Day Weekend.

We expect both weekends to be big events. Both will have great
live music and a great time dancing and socializing outdoors.

So ya'll come now, hear!!!
