MAJOR CHANGE FOR TANGO FIREWORKS LINE-UP: We're thrilled to announce that the incomparable Milena Plebs and her new partner, Ezequiel Farfaro, will join the Tango Fireworks Week 2001 lineup July 1 - 7 in Redondo Beach, California. They will replace Osvaldo Zotto and Lorena Ermocida, who unfortunately have had to cancel due to the extension of Julio Iglesias' tour into July. We will miss them, but what "replacements" we've lined up! There can be no doubt that Milena Plebs, co-creator, co-choreographer, co-director and former star of "Tango X 2," "Perfumes de Tango" and "Una Noche De Tango," has had more influence on tango than any woman in the history of the dance. As a stage dancer and choreographer, she has changed the face of the dance, spawning a new generation of young dancers who emulate her impeccable precision, elegance, strength and musicality. She is also a wonderful social dancer, greatly admired by both the older and new generation of milongueros. As a teacher, she is insightful, clear and generous. Her new partner, Ezequiel, has danced tango for several years, and is a very talented teacher who recently spent a year teaching in Japan. It will be a real treat to see Milena in a new dance pairing. We have added to our schedule a five-class choreography track for advanced dancers, which will be taught by Milena and Ezequiel.
We do not anticipate any other changes in faculty. All of our other instructors, including Pablo Veron and Noel Strazza, Julio Balmaceda and Corina De La Rosa, Omar Vega and Valeria Solomonoff, and Nestor and Patricia Ray, are locked in. There is still space available, and the gender balance of registrations has been running very close to even. We hope this trend will continue. So ladies, if you've been shut out of the other tango congresses due to a lack of men, come to Los Angeles. And don't forget that the greatest tango band in the world today, Color Tango, is coming from Buenos Aires to play for our milongas on July 6 and 7! The complete class schedule has been finalized and will be on the computer by this Friday.
