Traditional (folkloric) Argentine Social Dances

Unlike the Argentine Tango that is improvised, these dances are choreographed;
the dancers follow set patterns. Much like
the American Square-dance, the dancers follow the caller's directions. Once
you learn the patterns, you will be able to
dance to different musical pieces by following the caller's calls.

In the Buenos Aires milongas, dancers do these traditional Argentine (folk)
dances during the intermission such as the
Chacarera, Gato, and Ranchera. The music is lively and upbeat. You do not
need a partner to do most of these dances and
either men or women can do either part. Some dances do require a partner.
