Hi there,
Just to get everyone up to speed on our activities -
Once again thanks to everyone for the great turn-out for the NYC Firemen's
Fund Benefit held at the Verdi a couple of weeks ago, once the total is
tallied the check will be sent by Nirmala directly to the Fund. It was a
big success due to the efforts of many of you who attended and also the
organizers, Victor, Christie, the Verdi club who donated their space, Deby
of BATango, Steve and Joann of Broadway, the wonderful dancers and
performers who donated their beautiful dances and time - Marcelo and
Valessa, Luis and Claudia and Claudio and Augustina, and many many others.

BATango is planning two milongas for the month of October:

"An Ice Cream Milonga" - Co-sponsored by Bay Area Tango and Tango Gelato
Sunday, October 14th
3540 Fruitvale Ave.
(near MacArthur, off 580 E)
This is the only Argentinian ice-cream shop that we know of that makes "True
Argentinean ice cream hand-made ". They have received several write-ups in
the newspaper and I have tasted their gelato - it is good!
Admission is free and in addition the first 30 dancers will get a free ice
cream cone.
Emilio Flores is kindly volunteering his DJ services.
If there are any performance groups that would like to come and do a tango
please let us know. it is very informal.
2-5 p.m.
(for those of you who would like to carpool, Stella will be driving a van
leaving from Rockridge BART Station at 2 p.m.)

The second milonga will be on:
Sunday, October 28th
Special guest DJ Dan Boccia from Anchorage, Alaska will be playing his
favorite tango music for your dancing pleasure.
Dan Boccia is making quite a national reputation for himself, having been
selected to DJ recently at the Portland Tangofest, at LA Tango Fireworks
week next year, in Denver for their Milonguero week-end and of course in
Alaska.
He has kindly agreed to lead a discussion of musicality, his favorite
tango CD's, history, and how to get them 1-2 p.m. so if you need to augment
your tango collection this might be a good way to get some expert guidance
on how, where and why.
Milonga 2-6 p.m.
Come dressed in your scariest and your finest.
449 Powell St., San Francisco
Admission: $10 (includes lecture), $8 with valid BATango card.

We still need new members.
Our next meeting will be at Deby's house in Oakland, 6:30 p.m. after the Ice
Cream Milonga, potluck as usual.
In case you need some additional reasons to join here they are.

Stella
president, BATango
